Champagne houses are buying land and planting vineyards. Tattinger have done so in Kent, Pommery are rumoured to have planted in Hampshire and Louis Roederer and Duval Leroy are also interested
A perfect summer
2018 is referred to as the Vintage Of The Century due to the exceptional weather in England. Many vineyards production doubled as a result. Unfortunately it will be a little while before the wine is ready so we'll just have to be patient!
It's not just us selling more English Wine
WineGB report sales increased 31% between 2015 and 2017. This was recently backed up by Bibendum (a major distributor): "During the last year, we nearly doubled our value and volume sales of English sparkling wine at Bibendum"
Even the words are delicious
The English compound noun cellar door has been widely cited as an example of a word or phrase that is beautiful purely in terms of its sound without regard for it's meaning. Some consider it to be the most lovely sound you can make in the English language
